This Page is a Memoriam to RUSTY and he is the reason I got started in Cocker Rescue and the reason why I am all for the adoption of Senior pets. He was 10 years young and found himself in the Arlington, Texas Pound, unwanted. I didn't act quickly enough to save him from his fate. And to this day, I rue his one-time owner and the decision that he/she made. I have saved several(30 to date) in his name, and I can only HOPE that they never know his fate and never more find themselves on the street, in the pound/shelter or in an unloving home.
          MY FERVENT PRAYER:
St. Francis, please watch over all my little ones.
Help them to understand that though they leave me in the hope of finding a nurturing home, they are never far away in my memory AND if fate should be unkind after they leave me, remind them that they had and have my love always. Keep them safe and warm and if possible, help them find their way back to me again.

          MY HEARTFELT WISH:
is love, compassion, respect and care for all my rescues and my "country" pups:
Sunny, Cassidy, Lady, Molly, Buttercup, Ginger, Joey,
Taylor, Mary-Sunshine, Digger, Barclay, White Dog, Mr. Pup, Molly,
Maggie, Rusty, Patches, Cheyenne, Little One, Lucky, and Doaggie... so far

          A RARE GIFT
And, my sheltie find in Irving, Tx. who was roaming down Beltline Rd; Though, we found her to have health problems and be frail which obviously made her unwanted by her previous person, She was wonderful and lived out her remaining months with the care necessary and the love of a fellow rescuer.

          OUR NEWEST FIND
"working at the car wash blues"
She was drinking dirty water at the carwash when we happened by. We rescued what we thought was a bc mix, but I think we may be looking at a Belgian Shepherd(groendendael variety). She had a nasty case of Mange and a ear worn down to red whelts. She is now much better and is just a puppy(10-12 mos). I think we have decided on "Sheena" as a name. She is black(with white markings). We are now trying to teach her some "manners and people skills"...
I will update you on our progress...

          Update:
She has just moved right on in to stay...
She is my husband's dog now.
Currently, we are trying to keep her from digging
all the way through to China in the backyard.

          Update:
She is still with us and not in China!
We guess it was the wood fence.
We took her out of the fence and she hasn't dug a day since she can now see around.
She is out on a run leash and loves it and her new doghouse.
She still demands to be inside by dark though...
          and She hates thunderstorms...
We are working on her behavior...

          Update:
Her name is Sheena and she speaks!!! quite well in fact...
and she just loves to run....
she would make a great fly ball dog...

          THINK ABOUT IT:
"If all the beasts were gone,
man would die from great loneliness of spirit, since whatever happens
to the beasts also happens to the man. All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth."

Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things,
Man himself will not find peace.
          --Albert Schweitzer

          On the note above,
Compassion seems to be severely lacking in humankind; everyone should read
          THESE.
I cried when I did. It is my sincerest wish that no ANIMAL has to endure
the Lack of Love that Leads to the Lack of Life.

          ~~A Dog's Bill of Rights~~
I have the right to give and receive unconditional love. I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival. I have the right to be trained so that I do not become the prisoner of my misbehavior. I have the right to adequate food and medical care. I have the right to fresh air and green grass. I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside my own family. I have the right to special time with my people. I have the right to be bred responsibly if at all. I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh. I have the right to earn my person's trust and to be trusted in return. I have the right to be forgiven. I have the right to die with dignity. I have the right to be remembered well.

          ~~Eleven Commandments for a Responsible Pet Owner~~
          1.  My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years.   Any separation from you will be very painful. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me. 3. Place your trust in me --   It is crucial for my well-being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long,   and don't lock me up for punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I HAVE ONLY YOU! 5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll NEVER forget it. 7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could crush all the bones in your hand, but I CHOOSE not to bite you. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy, stubborn, or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or my hearing is not right or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak. 9. Take care of me when I get old. Remember, You, too, will grow old. 10. Go with me on difficult journeys.
Never say, "I can't bear to watch it", or, "let it happen in my absence." 11.  Don't leave me alone at the end of my life--Be there.    Everything is easier for ME if YOU are there.
          Remember, I love you.
