Future History: The Guild Space Setting

Consolodation / Capitalism Era: Though not fist on my development list, this would be my near future "technothriller" setting. It probably wouldn't be a cyberpunk setting because I have assumed that cybergear doesn't occur until late in this era. This era would be characterized by cyperpunkesque big business and James Bondish and Tom Clancy-ish international intruige.
Alliance Era: This would be the era of pre-starflight where man is expanding into and exploring the Solar System. This is the paradigm that is becoming popular in some recent SF short stories.
Hegemony Era: This is the era of man striking out into the interstellar void, and first contact with alien races. Most first contact novels are pertinent inspiration here, as well as Larry Niven's known space stories.
AI War Era: This is the Military SF era of the game where humanity has to fight for its very survival. Inspired by Jerry Pournelle's Co-Dominium and Warworld books, Fred Saberhagen's Beserker series, plus books of a relatively unknown author named Stephan Ames Berry, along with the Terminator movies.
Guild / Cartel Era: This is the era of the Guild Protectorate, an interstellar governing body that governs the interactions between worlds, megacorporations, and businesses, but has little in the way of military power outside of the interstellar patrol. This era is characterized by a new era of expansion into a HUGE section of space that stretches the ability of any government to control all of it, as well as megacorporations, criminal syndicates, interplay with alien empires, and interstellar intruige. Inspirations here include the Traveller game, the Babylon 5 TV series, more Larry Niven known space stories, and the Spaceport 6 online forum at www.webrpg.com.
