I played Luna in a musical called "The Jellicle Ball" (the unofficial 
'sequel' to CATS) last year in our amateur operatics group we tried 
to weave similiar characters into the show. Luna was basically Jemima 
(note: Jemima has a connection with the moon, and Luna kinda means 
moon) and in playing Luna, I knew that Jemima would probably do the 
same sort of thing as her, so slowly Luna turned into a kind of 
Jemima parody, for example a scene where Celeste, the cat who ascends 
to the Heaviside Layer, hurts her paw before she is chosen. The 
others ignore her, while Luna goes over to help her.

I looked up the name, Jemima in a name book and it says that it means 
peace, which is displayed when she helps the underdog, be it 
Grizabella, Celeste or anyone, no matter how anyone else treats them.
